FYI, I am working on adding much more information about the candidates in this year's primary, which is only a month away! The current election info page doesn't even list all of the races, but I hope to add much more - including web sites, maps, etc. In case you see anything that looks funny on OP in the next week or so, it's probably me experimenting and developing this new database of candidate information.

Also, I could use some help with finding and entering data on all the candidates. Please let me know if you'd like to help. Thanks!

Better (three months) late than never... we have finally replaced the OP Junkies feature. In fact, it is new and improved compared to the old site which simply e-mailed you as soon a new entry was published. The new feature lets you choose whether to receive the entire post and whether to also be notified of new comments.

To activate this feature, log in to your account at http://orangepolitics.org/user and then click the "My notification settings" tab. Then enable the notifications and set your preferences.

Currently this tool is set to send notifications every ~~60 minutes~~ 3 hours, but we can change this if folks like. Please take this poll to indicate your preference.

Changes in the local blogosphere

There has been a flurry of activity in the Orange County political blogosphere this month. Changes that interest me as much as who is wining the presidential primaries. (Go Obama!)

First, the big news is the disappearance of the Squeeze the Pulp forum. In its place appears to be a site that could have a community, but it isn'y very clear how. The new site is based on software called DokuWiki. It looks like a bunch of semi-static pages can be created and edited by a group of people. So people will write rants and others will edit them. For what, grammar? The two-way communication of a forum has been lost.

Where'd that page go? a.k.a. 404 Page not found

Have you followed a link to OrangePolitics only to get a "Page not found" message (or this here page) instead of the blog entry you were expecting? When we moved this site from Wordpress to Drupal in January 2008, we were able to keep most of the addresses from changing. However, there are some anomalies that fell through the cracks.

You may want to use the search function at http://orangepolitics.org/search to find the blog entry you want. We would appreciate you reporting these to us via http://orangepolitics.org/contact so we can rectify the error and update the URL in question. Thanks for your ongoing patience with the transition!

Something is wrong

The site is having some very strange problems I discovered today. For some reason, tons of content is disappearing for some users. Please bear with me as I try to figure out what is going on!

Also feel free to post comments (if you can!) about any problems you might have experienced here this week. Thanks.

UPDATE: I think I've fixed it. Please let me know if you're still having any issues accessing content.

We have finally arrived at OrangePolitics, version 3! You may be wondering how the site is changing, and I hope to explain that here. The biggest change is to the entire framework of publishing - on the new site every registered user has her own blog! This comes with a few other changes, for example every new piece of content does not necessarily appear on the front page. There are several ways to dig in and find the stuff you want, including: the Latest content page, which shows everything that has been published; Keywords (at right), which allow users to label and organize posts any way you like; and the Watchlist, where you can keep up with the bloggers you are most interested in.

A running list of known problems with the current (beta) version of OrangePolitics 3.0:

Previous users are not having to opt-in to the terms of service.

Problems specifically with entries imported from the old site:

Some comments have the wrong timestamp. (Which ones?)
All content was "created" on the day it was imported.
