- Bio
- I'm the Owner Services and Events Coordinator for Weaver Street Market's three locations in Orange County, which is a fun combination of marketing, outreach, public relations, and coordinating our membership, as well as a lot of hanging out on the lawn listening to music and eating (probably too much) great food. I work mostly out of my office in Hillsborough, and spend an awful lot of time in Carrboro in the summers, which is a nice compliment to living in Chapel Hill. I'm a recent graduate of UNC-CH, where I was a political science major and also studied city planning and environmental science. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up in grad school for something related to one of those three fields some day, though I also have a secret passion for math, computer science, and information science.
I'm currently a member of Chapel Hill's Planning Board, Third Vice Chair of the Orange County Democratic Party, and serve on the executive board of the Orange-Chatham Sierra Club. Before that, I served in a number of local and statewide organizations over the past few years, including on the UNC Young Democrats Executive Committee, as a member of the Chapel Hill Transportation Board, as Technology Director for the NC Federation of College Democrats, as the student government representative to the UNC Advisory Committee on Transportation, as a member of the Orange County Democratic Party GOTV Planning Committee, on the Orange County Local Revenue Options Education Advisory Committee, as a local issues columnist for the Daily Tar Heel, as the 2004 UNC Voter Registration Coordinator for the NC Coordinated Campaign, as a paid GOTV Coordinator for the NCDP, handling internet communications for Orange Citizens for Schools and Parks, and as a volunteer for numerous campaigns and as a member of various organizations including Greenpeace, the Campaign to End the Cycle of Violence, Students for the Judiciary, Wellstone Action, the UNC Environmental Purchasing Committee, Campus Progress, the Natural Areas Associations, and others.
I've done some other things as well, including mounting an unsuccessful run for the Chapel Hill Town Council in 2005, and stay reasonably well involved in political issues in the western North Carolina mountains where I grew up. After spending some time back in the mountains enjoying some coursework and doing research in various areas of environmental science at the Highlands Biological Station, I'm back in Chapel Hill full time and trying not to forget how to move a little bit more slowly, breath a little deeper, and not commit myself to quite so many things.
